48″ Seedling Shield Kit

The Seedling Shield is a tree seedling protector designed to protect young saplings from animal browse without compromising the horticultural needs of each sapling.

Features:

• New for Spring 2024 – patent pending.
• Unique plastic mesh design permits mottled direct sunlight to reach the bark and leaves of tree seedlings, promoting growth and plant tissue strength.
• Optionally open top permits full sun to enter the Seedling Shield vertically, encouraging rapid vertical sapling growth.
• Included Button fasteners are fast to insert and remove, making Seedling Shields reusable, and permit easy access to the seedling for maintenance and inspection.
• Bright orange fiberglass stake makes these sapling protectors more visible while mowing – easier to spot and avoid in meadow areas.
• HDPE mesh surface makes egg laying difficult for pests like the Spotted Lantern Fly, unlike the smooth surface of commonly used tree tube style products.
• Mesh makes the Seedling Shield less desirable than translucent plastic for small nesting animals as they are visible to predators.  Good airflow reduces the cold protection small pests seek during cold months.
• Engineered to be more horticulturally suitable than competing products.  Puts plant health first.  Compare to tree tubes and similar products.

Wood Stake + Fiberglass: Best of Both Worlds

• Combination of wood stake and fiberglass offers the advantages of both staking methods while avoiding the pitfalls common to each when used alone.
• Short wood stake provides a solid ground anchor, keeping a flexible fiberglass rod securely pinned into the soil.
• When a seedling is grown and the seedling guard is removed, the wood stake stays in the soil to rot naturally.  But because the top of the stake is flush with the surface of the soil, it isn’t a trip hazard.
• The fiberglass stake is thin and flexible allowing the seedling to flex in the wind promoting plant strength.  Unlike tall wood stakes, the flexible fiberlglass returns to an upright position in calm conditions – even if a large animal has tried to push it over or break it.

Re-usable: Good for Your Wallet and the Environment

• When the seedling is mature, plastic components are designed to be quickly separated from the short wood stake that anchors them in the ground, leaving no plastic or wire in the environment.
• Plastic components are UV resistant and designed to be used again.
• Buttons permit the mesh they fasten to be opened with a pulling motion but they stay fastened to one side – preventing litter.  Extras are included – put a button through the top of the Seedling Shield if bird nesting is an issue.
• No cable ties: they waste your time and frequently end up as litter.

Packaged for Field Deployment

• Sold in boxes containing 10 kits.   A few boxes can be easily carried at the same time by a single person, simplifying transport to areas only accessible by trail.
